Increase Website Traffic  | Increase Website Traffic

Increasing web traffic is not that difficult if you are armed with the right knowledge. In fact, it can be quite easy if you simply remember A.B.C. The acronym A.B.C. stands for analytics , bookmarking and content . If used correctly, all three can greatly improve your web traffic over the course of time. By utilizing A.B.C., you will not only increase hits to your website, but also save money, as these methods are free to use.

Analytics
The great thing about Google Analytics is that it is a “no cost” solution for everyone. It is also a powerful internet resource that allows website owners to track things like their page views, unique visitors, and entrance keywords. Additionally, people can monitor their users’ behaviors and navigation patterns, which will allow them to gain a better sense of what is popular or engaging on their websites.
For example, if you review your monthly analytics and see that many of your users click on your “Blog” page, but very few click on your “About Us” page, you will start to get a sense of what your users find intriguing. If you are strategic, you will use this information to your advantage by adding more content to your blog. You may also take a more pro-active approach and promote your blog on your site’s homepage as it is the first thing users will see.

Tip: Use analytics to improve website traffic by paying attention to user behavior and giving users exactly what they want.

Bookmarking
Social bookmarking is a great concept that website owners are utilizing to gain a competitive advantage. A bookmark is a stored web location (URL) that can be retrieved quickly from your browser. Once website URLs are bookmarked, people can organize, search or reference web locations with ease. Bookmarks become social when posted as links on popular content sharing sites, like digg.com or del.icio.us . Once posted on websites, bookmarks can be tagged with keywords, which allow users to search and find content.

You can increase hits to your website with social bookmarks in one of two ways. You can post a link to your website on a social bookmarking site, site users will click on your link, and you will gain traffic. Or, the search engines will count the bookmark as a back link, which will improve your organic rank over time and ultimately attract more users to your site.
Tip: Use social bookmarking to reach a larger audience by posting links on highly trafficked content sharing sites like del.icio.us.

Content
For site owners, one of the best ways to increase website traffic is through the use of informational content that incorporates targeted keyword phrases. You must provide your users with content that is engaging, entertaining, well-researched and most importantly, relevant to the users that you are hoping to attract. It has been said over and over again, on the internet “Content is King.” If you are hoping to improve the quantity and quality of your traffic, you will need to add content to your web pages that will not only rank in the search engines, but that will also captivate user interest. If you are unsure of how to write good content to increase website traffic, there are tons of internet resources that can provide you with helpful suggestions.

Search engine optimization (SEO) is the process of improving the volume or quality of traffic to a web site from many search engines. In other way you can say that the process of getting your website to the top of the search engines is known as search engine optimization (“Organic” or “algorithmic”) search results as opposed to search engine marketing (SEM) which deals with paid services. Typically, the earlier (or higher) a site appears in the search results list, the more visitors it will receive from the search engine. SEO may target different kinds of search, including image search, local search, and industry-specific vertical search engines. This gives a web site web presence.

SEO considers how search engines work and what people search for. Optimizing a website primarily involves editing its content and HTML and associated coding to both increase its relevance to specific keywords and to remove barriers to the indexing activities of search engines.

Other to search engine optimization Internet marketing. search-friendly web design, pay-per-click (PPC) advertising campaigns, link building programs, social media optimization, blog optimization and marketing, targeted local search marketing, and mobile marketing optimization.

Another class of techniques, known as black hat SEO or Spamdexing, use methods such as link farms, keyword stuffing and article spinning that degrade both the relevance of search results and the user-experience of search engines. Search engines look for sites that employ these techniques in order to remove them from their indices.

Contracting out SEO Article Writing

Author:
Brian Stocker

In a recent thread at webmasterworld, when asked if members had 10 people to assist promoting their website, what would they do. This interesting question produced the surprising answer by one member that they would have 9 people writing articles and one person linking.
Articles are a great way to get theme related one-way links, linkable content and can be contracted for around $10 per 400 – 500 word article. Prices vary though, and so does the range of qualifications.
Article writing, like link building, is an excellent candidatate for outsourcing, or perhaps more correctly, Outtasking.
Why Outsource?
Oursourcing is great because you can purchase services you need when you need them. You don’t have to worry about meeting payroll, or providing computers, desks or equipment. While a freelancer is researching and writing you can take care of other things.
Often, a freelancer represents a group, allowing you access to the more resources and expertise.
Misconceptions
One of the biggest misconceptions is you can ‘just give it to them’ and it will all be good. Nothing can be futher from the truth. In fact, the more time and effort you put into it, the better the chances of success.
Example Project of 10 articles.
Before talking to my partners in the Philippines, I research keywords and use the keywords to set up the titles and content of the articles. This usually gives me 6 or 8 of the article titles. Since not all articles get syndicated, I go to several articles syndication sites and research which articles in my area have the most links in YAHOO. This give more data for article topics and titles and general tone. Next, I decide what type of article suits the titles best. Is it to be a “information about this” article or a “how to” article with a bulleted list of actions the reader can take right now?
Once all this has been written out, I send it to my partner and ask to see 4 or 5 articles right away so that I can confirm everything is on track.
Or course, I have specified in advance the articles must be original, and I make periodic checks to make sure. Once you have dealt with a freelancer a few times you can ease up, but it still pays to check all the time.
Don’t use software
There are lots of people offering software that scrapes article syndication sites and/or the web for content, re-arranges it, and spits out hundreds of articles. My experience is it would have been easier and certainly faster to write the articles myself, or hire someone to do it.
Automated re-writes of scraped content seems to work on the Search Engines for now, but how long it is going to last is anyone’s guess. The achilles heel of automation is that it has to use templates and will always leave a footprint that other automated systems (ie bots

Search Engine Optimization (SEO) Analysis Made Easy

SEO is an acronym for “search engine optimization” or “search engine optimizer.” Deciding to hire an SEO is a big decision that can potentially improve your site and save time, but you can also risk damage to your site and reputation. Make sure to research the potential advantages as well as the damage that an irresponsible SEO can do to your site. Many SEOs and other agencies and consultants provide useful services for website owners, including:

  • Review of your site content or structure
  • Technical advice on website development: for example, hosting, redirects, error pages, use of JavaScript
  • Content development
  • Management of online business development campaigns
  • Keyword research
  • SEO training
  • Expertise in specific markets and geographies.

Keep in mind that the Google search results page includes organic search results and often paid advertisement (denoted by the heading “Sponsored Links”) as well. Advertising with Google won’t have any effect on your site’s presence in our search results. Google never accepts money to include or rank sites in our search results, and it costs nothing to appear in our organic search results. Free resources such as Webmaster Tools, the official Webmaster Central blog, and our discussion forum can provide you with a great deal of information about how to optimize your site for organic search. Many of these free sources, as well as information on paid search, can be found on Google Webmaster Central.

Before beginning your search for an SEO, it’s a great idea to become an educated consumer and get familiar with how search engines work. We recommend starting here:

  • Google Webmaster Guidelines
  • Google 101: How Google crawls, indexes and serves the web.

If you’re thinking about hiring an SEO, the earlier the better. A great time to hire is when you’re considering a site redesign, or planning to launch a new site. That way, you and your SEO can ensure that your site is designed to be search engine-friendly from the bottom up. However, a good SEO can also help improve an existing site.

Some useful questions to ask an SEO include:

  • Can you show me examples of your previous work and share some success stories?
  • Do you follow the Google Webmaster Guidelines?
  • Do you offer any online marketing services or advice to complement your organic search business?
  • What kind of results do you expect to see, and in what timeframe? How do you measure your success?
  • What’s your experience in my industry?
  • What’s your experience in my country/city?
  • What’s your experience developing international sites?
  • What are your most important SEO techniques?
  • How long have you been in business?
  • How can I expect to communicate with you? Will you share with me all the changes you make to my site, and provide detailed information about your recommendations and the reasoning behind them?

While SEOs can provide clients with valuable services, some unethical SEOs have given the industry a black eye through their overly aggressive marketing efforts and their attempts to manipulate search engine results in unfair ways. Practices that violate our guidelines may result in a negative adjustment of your site’s presence in Google, or even the removal of your site from our index. Here are some things to consider:

  • Be wary of SEO firms and web consultants or agencies that send you email out of the blue.Amazingly, we get these spam emails too:

    “Dear google.com,
I visited your website and noticed that you are not listed in most of the major search engines and directories…”

Reserve the same skepticism for unsolicited email about search engines as you do for “burn fat at night” diet pills or requests to help transfer funds from deposed dictators.

  • No one can guarantee a #1 ranking on Google.Beware of SEOs that claim to guarantee rankings, allege a “special relationship” with Google, or advertise a “priority submit” to Google. There is no priority submit for Google. In fact, the only way to submit a site to Google directly is through our Add URL page or by submitting a Sitemap and you can do this yourself at no cost whatsoever.
  • Be careful if a company is secretive or won’t clearly explain what they intend to do.Ask for explanations if something is unclear. If an SEO creates deceptive or misleading content on your behalf, such as doorway pages or “throwaway” domains, your site could be removed entirely from Google’s index. Ultimately, you are responsible for the actions of any companies you hire, so it’s best to be sure you know exactly how they intend to “help” you. If an SEO has FTP access to your server, they should be willing to explain all the changes they are making to your site.
  • You should never have to link to an SEO.Avoid SEOs that talk about the power of “free-for-all” links, link popularity schemes, or submitting your site to thousands of search engines. These are typically useless exercises that don’t affect your ranking in the results of the major search engines — at least, not in a way you would likely consider to be positive.
  • Choose wisely. While you consider whether to go with an SEO, you may want to do some research on the industry. Google is one way to do that, of course. You might also seek out a few of the cautionary tales that have appeared in the press, including this article on one particularly aggressive SEO: http://seattletimes.nwsource.com/html/businesstechnology/2002002970_nwbizbriefs12.html. While Google doesn’t comment on specific companies, we’ve encountered firms calling themselves SEOs who follow practices that are clearly beyond the pale of accepted business behavior. Be careful.
  • Be sure to understand where the money goes. While Google never sells better ranking in our search results, several other search engines combine pay-per-click or pay-for-inclusion results with their regular web search results. Some SEOs will promise to rank you highly in search engines, but place you in the advertising section rather than in the search results. A few SEOs will even change their bid prices in real time to create the illusion that they “control” other search engines and can place themselves in the slot of their choice. This scam doesn’t work with Google because our advertising is clearly labeled and separated from our search results, but be sure to ask any SEO you’re considering which fees go toward permanent inclusion and which apply toward temporary advertising.
  • What are the most common abuses a website owner is likely to encounter?
  • One common scam is the creation of “shadow” domains that funnel users to a site by using deceptive redirects. These shadow domains often will be owned by the SEO who claims to be working on a client’s behalf. However, if the relationship sours, the SEO may point the domain to a different site, or even to a competitor’s domain. If that happens, the client has paid to develop a competing site owned entirely by the SEO.

Another illicit practice is to place “doorway” pages loaded with keywords on the client’s site somewhere. The SEO promises this will make the page more relevant for more queries. This is inherently false since individual pages are rarely relevant for a wide range of keywords. More insidious, however, is that these doorway pages often contain hidden links to the SEO’s other clients as well. Such doorway pages drain away the link popularity of a site and route it to the SEO and its other clients, which may include sites with unsavory or illegal content.

  • What are some other things to look out for?
    • owns shadow domains
    • puts links to their other clients on doorway pages
    • offers to sell keywords in the address bar
    • doesn’t distinguish between actual search results and ads that appear on search results pages
    • guarantees ranking, but only on obscure, long keyword phrases you would get anyway
    • operates with multiple aliases or falsified WHOIS info
    • gets traffic from “fake” search engines, spyware, or scumware
    • has had domains removed from Google’s index or is not itself listed in Google
  • There are a few warning signs that you may be dealing with a rogue SEO. It’s far from a comprehensive list, so if you have any doubts, you should trust your instincts. By all means, feel free to walk away if the SEO:

If you feel that you were deceived by an SEO in some way, you may want to report it.
